RACHEL’S STORY

In 2012, I established my design practice Rachel Usher Interior Design as a 'solopreneur,' gradually evolving it into a distinguished and award-winning studio that handled significant luxury projects.

Alongside this expansion, I skilfully managed a diverse and talented team.

My Why?

With the growth of my business came the increasingly complex challenges of operating a design practice. Throughout my journey, it was clear that there was an absence of authentic, practical business discussions— and across the industry I observed a disconnect between fellow designers and a dearth of guidance when it was most essential.

My personal experience was that the business aspects of running an Interior Design company were shrouded in secrecy. It seemed that many designers, having endured challenges on their own paths to success, guarded their achievements, perhaps out of a sense of protecting their hard-earned positions.

My Aim:

This behaviour polarises a community and comes from a place of scarcity and fear of the competition. I do not believe that pulling up the ladder of success behind you galvanises your long term status, I have seen first hand that there is a vacuum of peership that exists within our industry and my mission is to change that, I believe that there is a better way for Interior Designers to thrive and to conduct business. I established the Business of Interiors in 2023 alongside still running Rachel Usher Interior Design in order to build a sense of community, creating a place where the founders and leaders of Design practices could turn for shared experiences, learning and kinship with other designers.

Through my podcast; ‘If These Walls Could Talk’  I am gradually changing the narrative, by exploring the deep learning from the lived experiences of my amazing guests, empowering others to achieve successful and thriving interior businesses.

I also offer personalised and tailored coaching/mentoring to interior design business owners, meeting them where they need it the most and helping them strategise their goals into meaningful steps.

Alongside these pillars of community, I am developing a range of other opportunities for Designers to meet, learn and thrive. More information on this is coming soon, please subscribe to our newsletter to be kept up to date with news and events.
